Hi, I’m Annik — the baker behind Up North Bakehouse.
I grew up in Germany, where good bread and home cooking were simply part of everyday life. I’ve been baking for as long as I can remember: traditional Christmas cookies, fresh pasta with my mum, and lots of kitchen experiments along the way. My path took me through hospitality and even a detour into film production, but no matter where I landed, I always found myself back in the kitchen — where creativity meets craft.
After moving to the United States, I didn’t plan on bringing my bread traditions with me. But I missed them deeply. So I started baking again, just for us at first. It didn’t take long to realize I wasn’t the only one craving real, handmade bread. Sharing it with my new community became a joy, and what began as a personal passion slowly grew into Up North Bakehouse.
Today, I’m raising my boys with my wonderful husband here in beautiful northern Michigan, and I bake with a simple belief at heart: real food, made with care and skill, brings people together. Whether it’s a loaf shared at the table or something sweet with coffee, that sense of connection is what drives everything I do.
So here I am — bread in hand, grateful, and ready to keep baking and sharing something real.
